GAMES FOR 31.8.13

The second Saturday of the league campaign saw defeats for the Firsts and Seconds and a draw for the Thirds.

The Firsts lost 4-1 away on the artificial pitch against AFC Oldham. David Campbell scored.

The Seconds put up a brave show against table toppers Whalley Range Seconds at Wood Lane, having lost against the same side the week before 6-2.

The match was much closer this time and Mellor were unlucky not to come away with a point. Range went into a 2-0 lead at half time. But a Mark Oldham free kick made it 2-1 and Mellor might have had a penalty (and a red card for the keeper) had Will Parry gone down rather than stay on his feet when clipped late in the game.

The final score was 2-1. There were many good performances, notably from Luke Jubb, Mark Oldham, Jack Parr, Will Parry and Sam Howarth.

The Thirds opened their campaign with a 2-2 draw away at Moston Brook. Rick Axford scored with a penalty, which you can view on Adam Axford's Facebook page. Marcus McNulty also netted and Fred Keyte was the Man of the Match.

The Fourths had a friendly, result unknown.
