Fourths draw at Stocs
All but Mellor Fourths were unable to play due to frost. But the surface at Stoconians' Hillcrest Road ground had just enough give to allow the Division D match to go ahead.
The home side were quicker into their stride and put Mellor on the back foot. Ant Brown made a terrific last ditch tackle to prevent a certain goal after four minutes.
Phil Brown then made the first of five excellent saves that earned him the Man of the Match accolade.
On 14 minute Phil Brown was called into action again, making a wonderful double save.
Jack Needham's tigerish tackling was keeping Stocs' left wing threat at bay. But Mellor's attack found it equally hard to make inroads.
On 40 minutes Phil Brown saved at point blank range and the Stocs' attacker put the rebound into the side netting from close in.
At half time Matt Wade replaced Jon Cosgrove and Sean Standen came on for Clive Szmit.
Standen began to thread more incisive passes through for Sobiegraj and Kovriegie but Mellor still found it hard to find a rhythm.
A minute after the break Gareth Jones suffered an injury and was relaced by Shane Cliffe.
On 55 minutes Paul Telfer fired over from Shane Cliffe's pass. But two minutes later Stocs opened the scoring from close range after another good stop from Phil Brown.
Kovriegie shot over as Mellor's forwards at last began to find a little cohesion.
On 65 minutes Sobiegraj caused consternation in the home defence with a mazy run and cross.
This was Mellor's best spell and the visitors forced a series of corners and throw-ins.
On 75 minutes the home keeper denied Sean Standen.
Paul Tefer spurned two chances but on 80 minutes a long punt downfield by Phil Brown saw Sobiegraj outpace the Stocs' back line and drill the ball home right footed from 14 yards for a deserved equaliser.
