John Bellis wins a Pride in Marple Award

First Team assistant manager John Bellis won an award for his contribution to sport in the inaugural Pride in Marple Awards ceremony.

On a very cold night on Tuesday the 23 November at High Lane Village Hall, close to 100 people turned out for The Pride in Marple Awards 2010, hosted by Stockport council, in association with Marple area committee.

The guests were welcomed to the ceremony by Marple High School Band and a glass of wine which set a perfect tone for the rest of the evening.

The Ceremony was broken down into 7 award categories, with many local residents, businesses, friends groups, charity groups and volunteers being nominated for each.

The 7 categories were:

Beyond the call of duty at work

Contribution to sport

Outstanding Young Persons sporting achievement

Community Spirited Business

Environment Champion

Keeping Streets Safe

Volunteer of the year

Mellor FC Club Stalwart John "EL BEL" Bellis was nominated for the Contribution to sport award, which was one of the more popular awards with several nominations being put forward.

Nevertheless "EL BEL" triumphed over second placed Ian Halford of High Lane Cricket Club, and walked away with the winners prize and certificate as pictured due to his commitment to Mellor FC over the last three and half decades, rightly so as I am sure everyone involved with Mellor FC will agree.

John is a massive part of our club and this award goes to show what loyalty to one club can bring.

From everyone at Mellor FC congratulations to John and a big thank you to all his hard work and effort he puts in week in and week out.
