Firsts held, Seconds win, Thirds and Fourths beaten
The Firsts went to Spurley Hey and shared the points in a 2-2 draw. Manager Stu Cumpsty operated a 3-4-1-2 with Dave Moss floating behind a front two of Craig Frisby and Jamie Berrisford. Mellor went 0-1 down but a Frisby penalty for a foul of Dave Whelan saw them level at the interval. Another foul on Whelan gave Frisby a second spot kick and he made no mistake to put Mellor 2-1 up. But Spurley equalised eight minutes from time. Jonathan Hunt was Man of the Match. Frisby has now scored in five consecutive games.
The Seconds put on a great display to beat visitors South Manchester 3-1 at Wood Lane. South took the lead on five minutes when the smallest player on the field headed in from a corner. Craig Fairfield headed an equaliser on 28 minutes after a Luke Jubb cross following a short corner. Matt Peck replaced an injured Tom Sullivan on 35 minutes and seven minutes later a break gave South the chance to take the lead again but a forward shot wide. On 55 minutes Ryan Yates replaced Rob Jordan, Martin Jackson swopped to the right wing and the team took on a far more offensive air. Two minutes later Yates released Jackson but a last ditch tackle denied him. On 60 minutes Chris Porter replaced the injured Paul Goodwin at right back. Mellor took the lead 11 minutes later. With South defenders appealing for offside Porter fed Jackson and his low drive found the net. Now it was all Mellor with Matt Peck terrorising South's right back, who was rightly booked for upending him. Peck could have had four goals but the keeper denied him twice, once he overran the ball and once a dreadful bobble caused the ball to pop up when he was about to pull the trigger. Mellor hadn't finished though and on 86 minutes Jubb's corner from the left was missed by the keeper under pressure from Yates and Fairfield headed his second of the game to ensure the three points.
The Thirds lost 2-4 away at Droylsden Amateurs. Steve Jackson and Man of the Match Martin Banks were on target for Mellor. The Fourths went down 1-7 at home to Staly FC Reserves. Matt McNulty scored and Mo Roberts was Mellor's star man.
