Seconds miss out on three points, Fourths maintain pressure

Bad weather again wrecked the league programme but the Seconds and Fourths both played in Brabyns and should have bagged maximum points. The Seconds, entertaining Newton, fell behind to a well worked goal, a forward beating the offside trap and lobbing Matt Lloyd in the first half. Within three minutes Mellor were level, Danny Hayes' surging right wing run ending in a pefect cross which Jamie Oldham gleefully headed home. Mellor played some excellent football but missed two golden chances before the break and as the pitch cut up in the second half the match descended into a physical battle to get the ball out of the mud. Mellor created two more good chances which they spurned. Newton had a man sent off for the second consecutive week against Mellor but held on for a point. The Fourths took on Gatley Thirds on a nearby pitch and won 3-1. Tom Bright, Maciek Sobiegoraj and a Ben Beer penalty after Maciek was tripped did the damage. The Fourths are in second place in Division D, three points behind Bedians.
