Fourths enter title race

Mellor Firsts' game at Wood Lane was rained off but there was plenty of good news for the club's other three sides with the Seconds maintaining their six point gap at the top of Division A, the Thirds earning a point and the Fourths entering the title race in Division D. If the Fourths win their game in hand they will go top. The Seconds travelled to Hooley Bridge and came away with a 3-1 win. The home side took the lead but Mellor equalised before the break and scored twice without reply in the second half. Luke Jubb, continuing his good run of form, scored one and Dave Whelan converted two penalties, both for fouls on Kev Murray. The Thirds had the second of back to back fixtures against Droylsden Amateurs and at Brabyns took a point in a 2-2 draw. For the second week running they missed a penalty, Mike Sharpe the culprit this time. But Sharpe was also a scorer along with Craig Fairfield. Rick Monton was Mellor's Man of the Match. The Fourths hosted AFC Oldham and won an exciting game 7-3. It was 5-3 with 10 minutes to go and the visitors were still in the match at that point. It was 3-2 at half time. Maciek Sobiegoraj rattled in a first half hat trick and Adam Axford also missed a penalty. A Ben Beer penalty and a Tom Bright goal made it 5-2 before Oldham replied again. But a Mike Palmer header from a Paul Telfer corner and finally a fourth for Maciek made the points safe.

The club is holding a Christmas Party at the Marple Tavern on Saturday December 20th. Make a note in your diary. Various games will be unveiled on the day.
