Firsts lose their 100 per cent record....but Seconds keep theirs in a 7-3 romp.

Two penalties and a freak, wind-assisted 50 yarder saw Hazel Grove gain revenge at Wood Lane for a 2-0 defeat at home to Mellor Firsts earlier in the season. Mellor underperformed but still did enough to win the match and regretted several missed chances. The turning point was Grove's second goal just before the break when a 0-1 deficit might have been retrieved. Mike Palmer halved the arrears in the second half but Grove went further ahead before conceding an own goal to make the final score 2-3. However, Mellor retain second spot in the Premiership. The Seconds travelled to Hillcrest Road for a derby against Stocs and came away with an emphatic 7-3 win. Mellor went 1-0 up but then switched off and found themselves 2-1 down in the first period before scoring twice more to lead 3-2 at the break. Keeper Scott Waters made up for a shaky first half with several excellent stops while at the other end the goals were fairly evenly shared between Ryan Yates(2), Dave Whelan, Luke Jubb, Andy Given, Jamie Parker and Man of the Match Kev Murray, who is in great form at the moment. If the L&C had a Manager of the Month it would surely go to Alex Wharton whose side tops Division A by two points. The Thirds are finding life tough in Division B against mainly Second Teams and lost 0-4 to Aldermere on Saturday. The Fourths crossed swords with old rivals Irlam Steel at Brabyns and earned a satisfying 2-0 win to put them fourth in Division D. Next up is rock bottom Stocs. Tom Neil scored another brace as the side kept a clean sheet for the second consecutive week.
