Firsts and Seconds maintain 100 per cent League record

Three wins and one defeat for Mellor's four teams...with the Firsts and Seconds maintaining their 100 per cent League records. The Firsts went to Hooley Bridge and came away with a 1-0 win to make it five out of five, thanks to a Ben Beer header in the first half. Mellor dominated the game and should have added to their tally. Mike Barlow made his first - albeit brief - First Team appearance as a late substitute. Mike Sharpe was Mellor's star man. The Seconds won a drama filled game at Wood Lane 3-1 against South Manchester. Andy Given gave the Seconds the lead on five minutes from a tight angle after Ryan Yates had caused panic in the South defence. Andy's high pitched celebratory "Yes" amused the watching crowd. On 20 minutes Kev Murray brilliantly converted Paul Newman's right wing free kick with a right foot volley for 2-0. Scott Waters kept South out with a fine save on 41 minutes. But a minute later he was beaten by a header from a corner. With Kev Murray and Scott Cassidy dominant in midfield Mellor looked odds on favourites. But South had a great chance to turn the game on its head when Chris Porter palmed away a goalbound shot on the line and was red carded. However, Waters saved the resulting rather weak penalty and although Mellor were now reduced to 10 men the let off seemed to lift the home side who showed more menace than the visitors. A flurry of substitutions saw Tom Sullivan replace Luke Jubb, Carl Brindley come on for Ryan Yates and Adam Worrall take Paul Goodwin's shirt. The changes worked perfectly. Sullivan showed great maturity to twist and turn into a shooting position and was unlucky to see his shot rebound off the right hand post. But with three minutes left he found Murray in the box with a clever pass under pressure and the midfielder swept the ball home for 3-1. The Thirds had a tough away fixture at Deans and lost 0-2. Russ Brooks was Mellor's star man. The Fourths earned their first win with a 5-0 thrashing of Old Strets in Brabyns. Man of the Match Tom Neil scored two from centre midfield, Sam Healey scored for the second week running, Pat Boyle also found the net and Strets scored an own goal. New signing Adam Oxford made his debut as a sub.
