Seconds leave it late, Firsts crash out of Cheshire Cup after injury time goal

Two late, late goals from Jack Parr that turned defeat into victory for the Seconds at Wood Lane were the highlights of an otherwise disappointing weekend. The Firsts looked to have pulled off a terrific away win in the Cheshire Amateur Cup at Barnton, through a Mike Sharpe goal 20 minutes from time. Sharpe scored after good work from Paul Swann and Martin Jackson. But the home side equalised five minutres into injury time and although Mellor hit the bar twice in the first period of extra time, Barnton snatched victory with two further strikes. Mellor were aggrieved that the referee did not give a foul on Ben Beer who was forced to concede the corner that led to Barnton's injury time equaliser. The Seconds at home to Rochdalians led 1-0 through a Ryan Yates' headed goal, his fourth of the season. But the visitors looked to have sealed the points with two second half goals. Jack Parr turned the game with a headed equaliser and scored again with his head a minute later after a Paul Newman free kick. The Thirds lost 3-4 at Brabyns at home to Norris Villa Seconds. Adam Worrall and Johnny Townsley (2) scored. The Fourths were leading Hooley Bridge Celtic 2-0 with goals from Sam Healey and Paul Telfer but defensive errors let the visitors back in and they ran out 3-2 winners.
